Getting started: The Path to a Successful Doctorate - September 09-10, 2025 EN

Target Group:

PhD candidates in an early phase of their project (i.e. in the first year)

 

Objective:

As a PhD candidate you are the project manager of your own PhD project. This workshop will provide you with the tools you need to plan and execute your PhD project as effectively and efficiently as possible. You will discuss and test basic strategies and tools for a good project and time management. This will enable you to better organize yourself and your workload. In addition, we will also look at productive communication with supervisors and the wider research community, structured reading and writing of academic papers, and how to stay motivated throughout your PhD.  

 

Contents:

  • Project-Management 

  • Tools and processes for practical and effective project management  

  • Use of modern knowledge management methods in research 

  • Communication with your supervisors  

  • Structuring your working day and routines for highly focused work 

  • Practical tips and tricks for efficient writing 

  • Tools and strategies for efficient handling of scientific literature 

  • Staying motivated

Free of charge for doctoral students and postdocs in Magdeburg.
