About the Prize

To support and promote the next generation of scientific leaders, SciLifeLab and Science/AAAS have partnered to award the best doctoral work in the life sciences across four categories:

Cell and Molecular Biology
Genomics, Proteomics and Systems Biology Approaches
Ecology and Environment
Molecular Medicine

Eligible applicants are those who completed their PhD between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. Please note: you may apply only once, so don’t miss this opportunity!

What You Can Win

Each year, four winners are selected and awarded:

Publication of their 1000-word essay in Science
A cash prize of up to $30,000 USD
An invitation to Sweden in December 2025 for the award ceremony
The chance to present their research and engage with leading scientists in their field
Attendance at a prestigious award banquet at the Hall of Mirrors at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm – the original venue of the Nobel Prize ceremony

How to Apply

Applicants must submit a 1000-word essay based on their PhD thesis to the editorial board of Science.
