That was the Mile 2017
Mile of democracy attracts over 8,000 visitors in Magdeburg
Despite the cold weather, over 8,000 visitors came to the Mile of Democracy that took place in the center of Magdeburg on January 21st. The event was created as an act of resistence against the traditional right-wing marches on the occasion of the city's 1945 bombing. Therefore, Magdeburg has blocked the city center for the ninth year with a colorful folk festival in order to stand against intolerance, hatred and violence.
The OVG Graduate School had a lively stand under the motto Science is international, in which young researchers from all over the world have presented their works, disseminating diversity in the city, both scientifically and culturally. The stand was a joint initiative together with the non-university research institutes, with Otto-von-Guericke-Gesellschaft and Otto-von-Guericke-Foundation. We were pleased to host so many visitors!
