Target group  

Doctoral researchers and postdocs who want to improve and practice their presentations skills.

 

Objective

This is an activity-based workshop led by theatre professionals whose expertise is in helping the speaker effectively communicate the importance and relevance of the work and the core message in the talk. This training will enable participants to become aware of their presentation style, pitfalls and qualities and to equip them with practical tools to design and deliver captivating presentations and to speak with confidence, ease and impact in front of an audience.  Repetition is a key aspect of the training so that participants can strengthen the narrative, the emotional tone, and the physicality of the talk in order to define and support the speaker’s own dynamic style.

 

 

Content

  • Craft a captivating scientific presentation using examples, metaphors and visuals to bring your research data to life and to engage your audience
  • Structure your content in a compelling and memorable way appropriate to your audience
  • Train the elevator pitch – tools for a concise presentation of your research)
  • Develop body language and voice skills to communicate powerfully
  • Using effective words and having good fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation
  • Using your voice, pauses and stresses to retain your audience's attention

Free of charge for doctoral students and postdocs in Magdeburg.

If you are unable to attend after registration, please contact us immediately at graduate.academy@ovgu.de  .

This allows us in particular to consider others interested in the course who are still on the waiting list. Please note that without your timely cancellation of your participation and/or in case of your non-appearance on the day of the event, we would be obliged to claim the pro-rata costs of the event incurred in relation to your person as damages. You are of course free to prove that the Graduate Academy has suffered no damage or less damage than the one claimed.
